critter attack!

I thought the animal trend wouldn't last past this winter's animal hat frenzy, but look what I found on Fifth Avenue...
CRITTERS, CRITTERS EVERYWHERE!

an adorable LV bag-turned-owl

a LV frog waiting to turn into a prince

a slightly scary LV squirrel

It-bags turned rats-with-cuter-outfits? I'm kind of digging it. Good thing these weren't real---PETA was just across the street.

style inspiration: NYFW street shots

It's hard to figure out what I love more about fashion week--the runway shows or the street style shots posted by my favorite photographers! I love seeing how "real" (sometimes hard to consider those that are attending the shows I'm drooling over real, but you know..) people dress, in real weather, in real life (again, eh...)--especially since they are often so in tune they're already flirting with the trends on the runway. Take this look...

I love the maxi dressing for winter that is all over the fall runways right now. But I love even more the absence of black. Dressing in nudes, whites, and greys when the rest of the street is all black is so, so refreshing--something I need to try!

And as for this stylish lady? I love the single splash of color on the hottest accessory from the men's fall shows.

Ok, back to NYFW coverage. What are your favorite shows so far? I'm compulsively clicking and saving. Favorites to come!

Wednesday

weather gods: i need my fall

Something crazy is going on--the weather is fluctuating in New York between 40 and mid-60's, rainy and so-sunny-I'm-sweating-with-my-holiday-latte. Luckily, Refinery29 showed off more of Mr. Newton's amazing street style photographs last week so I could live vicariously through them when the temperature creeped upwards. My favorites...

I love the unexpected rust color of that overcoat, the playfulness of light, printed scarves paired with a heavy fur, and the continuation of shorts-as-daywear with thick as hell tights. I'm in Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday, but you can bet I'll be mimicking these looks when I return to 40-degree weather again in NYC on Sunday!

workwear wednesday: cozy skirting

I almost-unknowingly copied this outfit all the way down to the grey scarf for work today (of course, I've had it in my favorite images folder for weeks, so how accidental could it really have been....).

Since it's so hard for me to find pants that fit my petite frame, I'm down for any excuse to continue wearing skirts through winter... and I love that looked polished while really being all bundled up! How do you guys stay cozy-chic in this cold weather?

workwear wednesday: thank you, bloggers

Last week was one of the first in a long time where I felt like I made lots of calculated, but easily decided-upon decisions for workwear. This was in no small part thanks to the many style sites I stalk on a daily basis. For instance, this look I spotted on Vanessa Jackman's blog....

...inspired me to pair a full, black lace skirt from Urban with a chambray shirt picked up at a work sample sale. I threw on a pair of black sandals (getting the last of their wears before fall REALLY sets in) and a polka-dot scarf. Voila! Easy and cool, and just a bit unexpected for work. Plus, I snuck around that whole denim-only-on-Friday rule!

What was your favorite work outfit this week?

the key to effortless style

Who knew it was really just a simple equation?

exactly one tailored jacket
+ a dash of body conscious basics
+ something of a "completer" [ie: scarf]
+ a pair of sumptuous wedges
+ one luxe bag
+ a nonchalant updo
+ a dab of make up
-----------------------------------------------
effortlessly chic

*hopefully I don't need to clarify I'm talking about the lady on the left

Thursday

the pants say it all

"i want a raise"

"i'm supposed to be studying"

"i'm over him"

do you know what season it is?

Why in the world are you wearing opaque black tights and boots when it's 90 degrees by 9am?!

Wednesday

flip flops reincarnated

delman serena-t sandals

I saw a girl on the subway wearing grey silk versions of sandals like these. As I'm on the hunt for a new pair of sandals (my favorite pair from Gilt Group have been worn to death) I was intrigued by their unusual sillhouette. It's kind of like a tease (party in the front, business in the back?). But these things are way too expensive (on sale from $260 to $190 on Zappos).
Another popular style, especially in Paris right now, are these "Harem" sandals (perhaps to go with their huge selection of drop-crotch harem pants--those things aren't dying anytime soon over there):

The price point is definitely better ($64 on Zappos), but it's also a little more expected... and harder to wear with jeans and things.
What do you think?
